Why we say “likely halal”

3 min read

Verdicts are only as good as the data

A verdict combines an activity screen and three financial ratios. The debt and cash ratios come straight from a company’s financial statements. The non-permissible-income percentage, though, needs revenue-segment detail that many data providers don’t supply cleanly.

We won’t fake a pass

When that impure-income figure is missing, we don’t assume it’s zero and stamp “halal.” Instead the verdict is “likely halal”: the business passes its activity screen and every ratio we can verify, but we’re telling you plainly that one input couldn’t be checked.

What to do with a “likely halal”

For most well-known, clearly-permissible businesses, a “likely halal” is a strong signal. But treat it as “passes the checks we can run,” read the “what we couldn’t verify” note on the stock page, and use your own judgment or a scholar’s for the final call.
